A Rengatto is a nine-link poem using the form 3-2-3, 3-2-3, 3-2-3. The first verse mentions a cat, while the fifth refers to the feline gender without mentioning the word "cat". There are nine links to a Rengatto because a cat is purported to have nine lives. The Rengatto was created by Alexis K. Rotella on the 18 February 1997.

A cat on the fence
not seeing the tar brush
the smell
peasant scarves
In an old woman's hands
fraying rope
a jar of pickles
the weather-beaten profile
The man

Buried with her
Under a lily pad
Waking me

High tea -
